The main protagonist of this story is Jill Mariner. She is a nice and sweet wealthy young woman who is engaged to Derek Underhill. Jill and Derek are the match made in heaven. They both are young, well-situated and successful. What could be much perfect than this?

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as perfection in this world.

Derek’s mother, Lady Underhill constantly convinces him to break off the engagement.  And after she is arrested for trying to stop a man beating a parrot, Derek fulfills his mother’s wish.

At the same time of the engagement’s breaking off, Jill finds out that her Uncle Chris has lost all her money in the stock market.

Trying to put all of that behind her, she goes to New York with her uncle. There they stay for a while with some relatives and after that, she goes to Broadway, where she finds a job as a chorus girl in the chorus of a new musical. There she falls in love.

What will happen to Jill next is up to you to find out.
