Abstract Potential clients come to forensic engagements carrying unseen expectations. Critical to uncovering these expectations, and subsequently dealing with them, is recognizing that myths exist regarding forensic examiners. Misconceptions and misinformation can create unrealistic expectations and can poison a positive and productive working relationship between the forensic professional and the client. Communication is the vital element in attacking these myths and managing clients' expectations. The forensic professional who continually provides and seeks information is best able to navigate the shifting relationship before, during, and after the engagement.
