NMC stands for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the UK regulatory body for nurses and midwives. Some 690,000 health professionals in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are currently registered with the NMC. In fact, you cannot practise as a nurse or midwife in the UK without being registered with the NMC. The NMC fitness to practise process is protracted and can be very stressful.
