INTRODUCTION Obesity and obesity-related morbidity are serious public-health problems in developing countries (1,2). While high-energy diet and sedentary lifestyle have been described as primary factors for the worldwide epidemic of obesity (3,4), these features fail to completely explain the epidemic of obesity in developing countries (5,6).
