Our Musical World, Book 4 - American Musical Creativity: The History & Legacy of Pain & Triumph

Our Musical World, Book 4 – American Musical Creativity: The History & Legacy of Pain & Triumph, examines the complex relationship of cultural conflict, slavery, racism, and multi-cultural contact and the wealth of creativity that resulted from the complexity of American cultural evolution (the Americas).  Through the windows of American music: the Spirituals & Gospel, the Blues, Irish/Celtic & Country music, Jazz (over time), Hip-hop, and Calypso (from Trinidad), we will explore how to engage multiple realities at once… painful & triumphant.   OMW Book 4 – will also closely examine the impact of cultural-centrism & white privilege, mis-appropriation, double meaning and encoded communications, and the seldom discussed yet deeply profound legacy of racial unity and cross-racial/cultural exchange.  The book features seven made-for video “mini-documentaries”: an Introduction, Spirituals, Gospel music, the Blues, Irish/Celtic music, Jazz, & Hip-hop, as well as over 65 professional photos and artwork samples, and five audio tracks.
