In Pollyanna, the best-selling 1913 children's novel by Eleanor H. Porter, a young girl goes to live with her wealthy and unmarried Aunt Polly. Though the Vermont townspeople of her new home are generally cold to Pollyanna at first, she soon wins them over with her sunny disposition and her determined optimism. But will she ever thaw the heart of distant Aunt Polly? This classic story was made adapted for a 1960 Disney film for which child actress Hayley Mills won a special Oscar.
