INTRODUCTION Immunoglobulin concentrates are therapeutic preparations, the vast majority of which contain polyclonal human immunoglobulin G obtained from the pooled plasma of 1,000-60,000 healthy donors. Initially, immunoglobulin concentrates were used exclusively to replace missing antibodies in patients with primary or secondary immunodeficiency (prevention and treatment of infections). Since 1981, high-dose immunoglobulin therapy has increasingly been focussed on for immune system modulation in a variety of autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.
