Descrizione dell’editore

Robert Leonard. Von Neumann, Morgenstern, and the Creation of Game Theory. From Chess to Social Science, 1900-1960. Cambridge, Cambridge Press. 2010. Pp. x + 390. ISBN 978-0-521-56266-9. A$130(hb). In 2008, when Robert Leonard visited Australia and gave an address to the HETSA Conference in Sydney on a subject that forms part of this book, it was clear that the whole work was nearing completion. The long, careful preparation process has certainly been worthwhile. Leonard uses a vast array of archival sources, records of personal interviews and personal communications in order to give us a rich historical account of the 'creation of game theory' in the twentieth century. This is a work of historical reconstruction.
