Rugo and Karbo are Gouldian Finches. Their heritage is in Australia. They have been born and raised in a small cage. Their parents and siblings went away with people when they were just teenagers. They have to cope with various cage mates and they have just managed to make some friends when they are taken away in a box on a long mysterious voyage. They end up in another cage with more strangers. Things look dismal until a woman sees them and takes them away to take care of them in her home. The place is nice. They woman surprises them by opening the cage door, inviting them to fly out. Karbo does, though he's weak and clumsy at first. He soon gains strength and skill. Rugo cannot fly because cage masters have cut his wing feathers. He really wants to fly, and he tries and tries, but he keeps falling. One day, something weird happens. Rugo's feathers start to drop off. He's worried and uncomfortable until he notices new feather stubs forming. It is not long before he can move by flapping his wings. He too is weak and clumsy in the beginning of his flying days, but enough new feathers grow while he is practicing hard that he finally can do it. Rugo and Karbo are thrilled and happy. The woman even takes them outside into the sunshine sometimes, protecting them from ominous black birds circling in the distance. In sum, Rugo and Karbo have more freedom and live much more comfortably than ever, but one thing bothers them. They are just two. Rugo and Karbo hope to meet other little birds. They are surprised when their foster mom brings home Coco one day. Coco is a little brown Society Finch with heritage in Bengal, India, and Europe, though he was born in Japan. His life has been similar to what Rugo and Karbo used to experience. However, he gets used to the new place and foster mom, and learns to play and fly with his new room mates. They all become friends. They play, fly, talk and sing. They look forward to more new things in life.
