Descrizione dell’editore

The book “Sicilian Scenery” was published in London by Rodwell & Martin between 1821 and 1823. The Publishing house included a series dealing with travelling diaries in Europe in the early XIX century. Peter De Wint (Stone/Stadfordshire 1784 - London 1849) edited the drawings of the tables which illustrate 60 landscapes. He was a member of the Society of painters in watercolors in the first half of the nineteenth century. Because of his fame as watercolorist the most important publishers wanted his contribution. Peter De Wint never spent time in Sicily and painted the landscapes in this book using sketches by William Light. He drew while he visited many different places in Sicily serving in the army . All landscapes published in the original sequence don’t respect a geographical order but a temporal one. The nineteenth century text of the descriptions is in English and French. The edition proposed by Experiences includes an Italian translation.
