I've been a ghost since I was sixteen. Attachments are a luxury I can't afford. Sympathy is a weakness I've been trained to ignore.

My assignment should be simple. Infiltrate Jeffrey Callen's life, drain him of his secrets, then make him disappear. I'm used to cashing paychecks written in evil men's blood. But no one prepared me for the way Callen would slip past my defences, planting something dangerous and alive inside my heart that no blade can reach. Hope. Everything I've been told about my target is a lie. He's no villain. The only thing he's guilty of is his own humanity.

Sensing my hesitation, my employers have made it clear: finish the mission, or I'm the one who vanishes.

The choice becomes abundantly clear. It's my survival... or his.

At least there's Sylvie. Sharp tongue, dangerous curves, and eyes that look right through me... like she's searching for something she'll never admit she wants. I know she has secrets. Lethal ones. Her story doesn't add up. But when I see the torment in her eyes, I don't care that she's hiding something. I'd lay my life on the line for her.

But the deeper I get, I have to wonder-am I the one who's really in danger?
