Two weeks after the end of the Cardinals’ 2014 season, tragedy struck. Cardinals rookie outfielder Oscar Taveras was killed in a car accident near his hometown of Sosua, Dominican Republic. Thousands turned out for a funeral procession through the streets of his hometown to say goodbye to the first player from Sosua to make it to the major leagues. Taveras was 22.
