In 1964 ABC premiered The Addams Family, a kooky TV comedy series based on Charles Addams' comics from the New Yorker. An instant hit, the eccentric family of misfits - Morticia, Gomez, Uncle Fester, Pugsley, Wednesday and Cousin Itt captivated fans and became iconic television. Along with its chief competitor, CBS' The Munsters, The Addams Family gave us something TV had never seen before - a ghoulish good time. However, after a hit first season, the series dropped in ratings by season two and was cancelled before season three went into production.
