Introduction In March 2006, leading specialists in neurobiology, education, genetics, child development, psychiatry and psychology gathered in Glasgow for 'The Social Brain 2--See the bigger picture', a two-day conference on learning difficulties. According to Mindroom, the charity that organised the event, 'conservative estimates indicate that at least five children in every class in the UK have some form of learning difficulty'. Those looked after are often particularly vulnerable to social development problems that may not be specifically identified.
