Sex in the City meets First Wives Club – with a modern twist.
Forget revenge or commiserating over cocktails, this is not your mother’s divorce. Wife Goes On is the story of four real women who are not in search of Prince Charming. They’ve been there...and are done with that. Despite the differences between a city lawyer, a Hollywood actress, a PTA President, and a midwestern homecoming queen, they deal with children, jobs, and the new joys of sex. They find that the one thing they have in common – the D word - is more than enough to truly help each other launch their sizzling second acts. Over one significant summer, the new friends ditch the fairy tale and learn to live happIER ever after.
Whether you are among the millions of divorcees - or are friends with one - Wife Goes On will inspire you with humor, heart, and hope. This story wipes that scarlet letter “D” off women’s foreheads for good. It proves that being alone is not the same as being lonely. Husbands may come and go, but friends are forever!
Wife Goes On is not pro-divorce, but pro-happiness. When you have to start over, the expression “Get a Life” takes on a whole new meaning. From the challenges of rental apartments and restraining orders, the perils of motherhood and makeovers, scary firsts of dining alone and dating again, to the reality of losing old friends and finding new jobs, with a dash of sex toys and celebrities, this story is about four women learning what really makes them happy - and how to go after it. As Publishers Weekly says, “Wife Goes On is serious drama wrapped in a chick lit bow.”

Lehr turns out a frothy escape novel that examines a cross-section of contemporary Los Angeles divorc es who become fast friends despite themselves. There's Diane, a mom of two whose husband's gambling led to bankruptcy and divorce. Then there's Lana, the former wife of a Hollywood heartthrob whose public breakup became a national punch line and led her to change her name and find work at a furniture store. Rounding out the cast is sweet-as-sugar Bonnie, a former homecoming queen now saddled with two children and an overbearing husband, and icy divorce attorney Annette, whose husband left her for another man. After a chance encounter in Lana's furniture store, Diane discovers Annette is living in the house she lost, and Bonnie has a mini-breakdown while choosing a coffee table; the four eventually find themselves looking to each other for support, insight and favors. Although occasionally veering toward the implausible or clich d such as when Lana spurns her ex on national television Lehr keeps the plot moving with madcap hijinks and tender moments.
