The Au Pair

Fifteen years ago an au pair vanished from the Bennett house. Now, the child she cared for comes home to uncover the truth . . .

When Annie Bennett returns after her mother's death, she expects grief, guilt, and the painful work of clearing out her childhood home. Instead, she uncovers a mystery that has long been buried.

Fifteen years ago, Marie Sinclair came from Nova Scotia to work as the Bennetts' au pair. She was young, kind and loved by Annie and her little brother. Then she disappeared.

Annie was told Marie was troubled. That she stole from the family. That she left in the night and did not want to be found.

But hidden recordings tell a different story: of a frightened mother, a silent house, and a father who never shouted because he never had to.

Now Annie must question everything she remembers, including the night she stood barefoot in the cold, while someone told her she was only having a bad dream . . .

Because what happened that night is far more chilling than Annie could ever have imagined.
