The Black Druid by Frank Belknap Long is a pioneering work of weird fiction and psychological horror. Set during an oppressively dark and rainy evening in a quiet local library, the story follows Stephen Benefield, a methodical man who takes a mundane trip to do some research—only to step outside wearing the wrong overcoat and find reality shifting around him. Mistakenly picking up a strange, cursed garment, he is plunged into a surreal, nightmarish realm where uncanny strangers stare in dread and his very visage begins to feel monstrously altered. Blending domestic realism with existential dread, The Black Druid remains a classic masterpiece of early speculative and supernatural fiction.
Narrated by horror author Jonathan Dunne.
