A Borrowed Motive

Erin Corbett spent seventeen years looking for the driver who killed her brother. Now someone has killed her.Her estranged husband has already given investigators plenty to work with: a bitter argument, blood in the kitchen, and a key to the house. But Erin was alive after he left, and the old hit-and-run file was open on her table.

Drawn into the case by an online exchange, Jonah Rainer, Evie Sayer, and the BCRG team begin separating the violence that ended Erin's life from the conflict that came before it. Then a second death sends them deeper into the repair history Erin was trying to uncover. The obvious suspects have secrets worth hiding, and each admission makes it harder to tell which ones matter to the murders.

With another witness at risk, the team must follow Erin's search wherever it leads, even when that means questioning the case taking shape in front of them. A convincing explanation could leave the killer free to act again.

A Borrowed Motive is the second book in The BCRG Files, Michael Novian's crime series about behavioral investigation and the human cost of getting it wrong.
