A Decade United

Adelaide:  Friday the 17th of October, 2003, marked a new dawn for football in South Australia. 

On a perfect spring night, a crowd of 15,568 flocked to Hindmarsh Stadium, just west of Adelaide’s CBD, to witness Adelaide United’s on-field birth. 


The club’s name was more than just symbolic; it drew non-football people to the game in support of a team that genuinely represented the whole state. There were no ethnic ties, no internal divisions. For the first time in many years, there was genuine excitement about the sport. 


Adelaide United was at the forefront of a revolution of football in Australia. A pioneer both domestically and in Asia, the club has been involved in some of the most remarkable incidents in A-League history. 

From winning the inaugural Premier’s Plate and Pre-Season Cup glory to a record Grand Final loss, a remarkable run to the Final of the Asian Champions League and bitter disputes with former players and coaches - the club has seen it all.

Adelaide Journalist Loukas Founten set out to document these incidents through the eyes of the players, coaches and administrators who were there. Featuring detailed interviews, hundreds of photographs, results and statistics, this hard cover coffee table-style book is the first to document the history of an A-League club in the competition’s tenth anniversary year.
