Desperate to escape the life her guardian and brother Lord Shermer has planned for her, Bea accepts the proposal by Edwin Mills, who she's known for only a short time. Instead of taking her to Gretna Green as she'd been told, he takes her to the tiny town of Fenwick-on-Sea, where she's soon found by her brother's man, Charles Robinson.
