 In 1946, a young woman is murdered in Lane End. Clarissa is the daughter of the local counsellor and the race is on the find the killer. The chief inspector needs to close the case and fast, but is he hiding something?

In 1939, thousands of children were evacuated from London. Rose Smith was one, ending up in the sleepy village of Hambleden, along with her younger brother and sister. Returning to London in 1941 to aid the war effort, Rose trained to be a nurse, this until the end of the war when she returned and her family reunited.

In 1945, Taking a job with a local Private Investigator, Rose is drawn into several cases of missing young women. Fearing a serial killer is on the loose, Rose leaves no stone unturned in finding his identity.

As the timeliness meet, the truth emerges, and it's a shocking one.  The race is on to find the killer, but at what cost?
