Bluejacket-Flint Elementary

Bluejacket-Flint has the goal of keeping student creation and innovation at the forefront of the learning experience. In the 2015 school year, Bluejacket-Flint joined its school district in a digital learning initiative in which each student received an iPad and each teacher iPad and MacBook. Apple TV and large screens are in each classroom and collaborative space. Whether it's in their new MakerSpace or in the classroom, students are encouraged to work collaboratively. Throughout the school, classrooms have been rearranged to give students space to work in groups. Hallways and corridor space are often used for making movies with green screens. Students and teachers work together to find solutions to challenges they see in the world through Challenge Based Learning curriculum. The school partners with another local school to encourage literacy through reading challenges. Videos and access to technology help engage both communities and allow all students and staff to enjoy the results, which included being able to see the principal keep his promise to skydive if students read at least 110,000 minutes in one week. Testing results from the last three years demonstrate that students have made significant gains in reading.
