Someone is destroying surveillance drones throughout the galaxy and wants to move up to vaporizing starships. When they finally succeed, killing tens of thousands of people, the evidence suggests that humans are at fault. Then a group of isolationist fanatics on Earth claims responsibility.

Emma Fuji leads a diverse team of aliens aboard the vast starship Violet Enforcer over an entire quadrant of the galaxy, from an AI colony on a neutron star to the wastelands of Earth, to try to find who's really to blame—because if humans are responsible, it will mean our extinction.
