Cooking the U.P. Way introduces the aspiring cook to the culinary delights of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.), India-both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. While most Hindus living in U.P. are vegetarian, some do not eat onion or garlic either. The Muslims of U.P. on the other hand, prepare the most delectable meat dishes.
While putting this book together, Niru Gupta visited the homes of various people—homes in which many of the recipes in this book are made traditionally. These recipes are of dishes that are prepared with ordinary ingredients, and so, can be easily followed by anyone.
Personal glimpses about the recipes and anecdotes about people from whom the author has learnt them, enliven the book.
Niru Gupta took up cooking as a hobby but was soon enthused by the art of cookery. She was the host for a television serial, Khana khazana, for about six months. Ms Gupta has held cookery demonstration classes at Ladies’ Clubs in Delhi and Kanpur. A well known author, she has written for Eve’s Weekly, Femina and Savvy. She has also authored five books, Cook, My Dear; Everyday Indian; No Onion No Garlic; Vrat ka Khaana and The Microwave Indian Cookbook.
