She woke to discover that she was in a hospital, that she had amnesia and her name was Helen Mitchell. She was also told that she was engaged to the incomprehensible Reid Spencer. Because she didn’t know where she lived, she was coerced into going home with Reid. If it weren’t for Carolyn, Reid’s mother, she wouldn’t have gone. She could have easily withstood Reid’s criticism, but Carolyn’s heartfelt plea touched her heart, and she gave in.


Reid’s Jekyll-Hyde attitude confused and dismayed her. In the moments when he treated her with gentleness, she could understand why she had apparently accepted his proposal.
