Fruity, rich and dense: The Gastrician has been called these things many times. They are his badges of honour in a sphere where cheesy, thin and poor form the common argot. With a full-bodied prose style that stands apart, his restaurant reviews will cause wonderment long after the restaurants have gone.

In response to overwhelming potential demand, the collected writings are now available in a single volume. Many of the reviews appeared first in Fire & Knives, a periodical of foodistry and such. They are interspersed with unpublished work that, while sometimes more frivolous in tone, show the same density that makes The Gastrician an egregious voice among food writers. In a world of sponge fingers, he is the fruitcake.
