Essential George Orwell

George Orwell, born Eric Arthur Blair, has become a well known figure in the Western world for his opposition toward totalitarianism and his detailed narratives. A journalist by trade, Orwell learned to organize story elements with coherency and ease. This skill can be seen in his most renowned works, _Animal Farm_ and _1984_, books which have become so important to Western culture that they have introduced neologisms and idioms to the vernacular. However, _Essential George Orwell_ encompasses much more of Orwell’s body of work than just those two classic titles. It includes the four novels he wrote prior to _Animal Farm_ as well as three narrative documentaries based on his own personal experience. Though these books remain less acclaimed than Orwell’s defining works, they contain the same intelligence and wit that has become characteristic of Orwellian literature.
