Every story in this entertaining and moving collection feels like a dazzling, perfectly wrapped bauble. Ellen Oh (a cofounder of the We Need Diverse Books campaign) has done an amazing job enlisting some of the funniest, most interesting YA authors on the scene to write short stories that reflect the diversity of young people’s experiences. We loved the heroes and heroines we encountered here: from an aspiring Mexican basketball star and a clever Chinese servant who becomes an apprentice to a fearsome female pirate to a tongue-tied girl named Sam who finds her groove when a new girl appears on the scene.
