Forest Days

Complete and unabridged, with 59 full-page plates by James Webb, Alexander Fraser and William Muir. England under Henry III, with the barons in revolt, an outlaw band in Sherwood, and a knight caught between the two. James wrote more than a hundred novels, was made Historiographer Royal by William IV and ended his life as a British consul; here he sets his romance in the reign that produced the Robin Hood legends and treats them as history in the making. Fifty-nine plates of wooded landscapes, ruined castles and forest glades by painters from Turner to Rossetti give the outlaw romance the scenery it demands.
