What happens after the synapse fires?
Modern neuroscience can explain signal transfer, neural activity, brain networks, sensory processing, memory, and biological regulation. But a deeper question remains: how does a neural pattern become pain, music, meaning, identity, ownership, or the lived sense of "I"?
From Synapse to Self enters this unfinished territory through Universal Energy Dynamics. Beginning with Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist Sir John Eccles and the unresolved mind–brain problem, Sandeep Chavan argues that Eccles did not fail when he moved beyond brain-only explanation. He reached the edge of synaptic science and recognized that something essential was missing.
That missing element, this book proposes, is not a supernatural ghost. It is the self-anchor.
Across thirty-five chapters, the book develops a layered model of mind:
The synapse explains transfer.
The neuron explains pattern.
The brain explains biological mediation.
The body explains material life.
The mind explains experiential field.
The soul explains energetic continuity.
Consciousness explains connection.
Awareness explains looping.
The self explains interpretation.
Intelligence explains expression.
This framework distinguishes signal from meaning, neural pattern from lived experience, consciousness from awareness, soul from self, and computation from intelligence. It explains why the same event becomes shame in one person, courage in another, and wisdom in a third; why a student can be physically present yet absent from learning; why music is more than frequency; and why psychological suffering often begins when patterns are misread or misresolved.
The book then expands from the individual mind into personality, education, culture, morality, language, institutions, society, and civilization. It presents society as a shared meaning-system and argues that civilization evolves only when shared awareness learns from repeated consequences.
The final part confronts artificial intelligence. AI can generate language, images, logic, rhythm, and association, but it does not possess a living body-field, awareness-loop, Mind-field, self-anchor, or owned consequence. Artificial neural networks convert data into artificial patterns. Biological neural networks convert deltas into living patterns. AI can imitate the expressive residue of intelligence, but it does not live meaning.
Written for readers of neuroscience, consciousness studies, cognitive science, psychology, philosophy of mind, and artificial intelligence, From Synapse to Self offers a bold field-based alternative to both strict materialism and supernatural dualism.
The brain generates patterns.
The self resolves meaning.
Awareness opens the loop.
Intelligence expresses the journey.
From synapse to self, neuroscience becomes complete only when pattern is connected to meaning.
