A twelve-and-a-half-year-old boy who is impoverished and abused has an amazing change in his life after he decides to help a discharged Canadian alcoholic war veteran survive for a few cold months from October to December 1945. The veteran is killed when he is run down by a streetcar. While the boy is spiritually motivated, his parents are infected with the archon disease.
