Beth Gilk, after having survived the sex, drugs and rock and roll of her 20's, has a promising job in Austin academia, a cat named Startle, and an empty apartment. A self confessed serial monogamist, Beth knows that a Mr. or Mrs. Right is not going to provide the meaning she feels her life is missing. Her existential crisis is interrupted when Beth's best friend, Asa, leaves a fiancé at the altar and vanishes. The search for Asa in Austin's bars and backstreets leads to the bright lights of an Atlantic City Casino and the dark waters of a Louisiana Bayou before ultimately leading Beth to herself.
