Kinfolk Interiors

A look inside beautiful, one-of-a-kind homes around the world, from the tastemakers behind Kinfolk magazine

A disappearing kitchen for a reluctant cook. A glass block and steel bathroom inspired by a Berlin nightclub. A book-lined hallway that winds through the heart of the house. In Kinfolk Interiors, ideas of what makes a home our own are as individual as the lives they accommodate. At a time when interior trends are adopted and discarded with ever greater speed, John Burns and the Kinfolk team look instead to how the crosscurrents of time and personal history give a home a character all its own.

Organized by room, Kinfolk Interiors invites you into more than thirty richly inhabited homes around the world—from Stockholm to Lagos, Melbourne to Cairo—to see how design responds to the realities of daily life. Original photography appears alongside essays, conversations and practical advice on subjects ranging from balancing privacy and togetherness to choosing a rug, positioning a desk and hanging a gallery wall. Along the way, leading designers and creative thinkers consider how rooms acquire meaning, how daily rituals shape their use and why the most rewarding interiors continue to change with us. Rather than championing any particular aesthetic, Kinfolk Interiors offers ideas for making personal, practical and enduring choices. The result is both an inspiring survey of contemporary homes and an invitation to see your own surroundings—and their possibilities—anew.
