Lady Chatterley's Lover (1928) by D. H. Lawrence tells the story of a young married woman, Constance Reid, whose husband Sir Clifford Chatterley is paralyzed from the waist down due to an injury that occurred during the Great War. A distance between the couple manifests as Clifford starts neglecting his wife emotionally coupled with his physical limitations. Constance's emotional frustration steers her into an affair with Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper. Constance realizes from a heightened sexual experience she has only felt with Mellors that she must also be alive physically to be called alive in true sense.
