The lost dauphin of France, said to have been smuggled out of the Temple prison and raised among the Iroquois of northern New York. Catherwood built the novel on the Eleazer Williams claim that genuinely occupied American newspapers for years. This edition binds fifty-five plates by painters including George Catlin, Edvard Munch and Jean-Baptiste Greuze, alongside five illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
