May 13th, 1913

The fire started on the morning of May 13, 1913, when lightning struck the church’s steeple. The blaze took the lives of Police Chief John McCarthy, Const. Matthew Hamilton and fire Chief Hugh Durkin. We commemorate these brave souls with this poetry collection that shows the different perspectives and impacts the fire took on the city of Stratford over a century ago.
