Mermaid

Complete and unabridged, with 59 full-page plates by Winslow Homer, J. M. W. Turner and Ivan Aivazovsky. A girl raised on a stretch of the New Jersey shore among wreckers and fishermen is taken up by the world beyond the dunes. Overton was a New York literary editor who wrote fiction on the side and knew how the trade made and unmade reputations. This edition carries fifty-nine plates of painting bound with the text, among them works by Winslow Homer, Gustave Courbet and Thomas Fearnley.
