Again A Book On Project Management?

The obsessive Graal quest for speed in project management methodologies and the ongoing projects’ failures are the proof that trying to go fast only is not a best practice: Executing well is the solution. 

Projects represent the change. Many people reach their breaking points when confronted with even small projects. The fear of change is so intense that since the last decades mottos and buzzwords are around speed, agility, or rapidity.

Stakeholders must accept the changes and monitor them: They achieve that by focusing on the deliverables. Being confident that a project delivers is the best way for the stakeholders to feel at ease and for the project to be successful. Deliveries are the only tangible thing calming down the apprehension of the projects’ stakeholders.

Deliverable, Budget, Duration and Reliability are the four pillars worth communicating on and tracking. They are interdependent and disregarding one for another or the others increases challenges and risks. Projects fail because they miss the agreement from the stakeholders on the balance between these four pillars.

It is very common to try curing on the symptoms affecting the duration and neglecting the deliverables, the budget or the reliability. The stakeholders, such as the financial, the business, or the technical people must share a common understanding of these four pillars. Balancing the four pillars is the key for better IT project management, always taking into consideration the fact that the purpose of a project is to deliver.
