Number 17: Fall

One in a series of humorous short stories about Jonothan Byrne, an Intensive Care Paramedic responding to emergencies in Brisbane, Australia (4,344 words). The books can be read in any order as the number in the title refers to the codes used to dispatch ambulances: 

Jono bumps into an old mentor, Slim, who works on one of the high acuity rapid response vehicles. It’s a role that Jono aspires to, but he’s yet to attain more than a few sporadic shifts. As Jan points out, perhaps all he needs is a personality transplant. While she leaves Jono to contemplate the positives of his job, they’re dispatched to yet another patient who’s fallen over. But does this latest case truly belong within the ‘lot of crap’ category?
