Number Magic

Number Magic is a poem I wrote about a starfish, talking on the beach to someone (something) who wants to learn how to count - just a little fun with numbers (and relax, it's just a fiction). I had hoped to keep going and rhyme about decimals (moving from the base numbers and going to the left is whole numbers, while adding a decimal and moving to the right are decimals - the tenths, the hundredths, the thousandths, etc; and then go further to rhyme about how the decimals are "fractions" and "percents", but, I guess that will have to be another day).


   This poem has thirty two stanzas of four lines. The second and last line of each stanza end with a rhyme, and, I think, starting at stanza two, the second and fourth line of each pair of following stanzas rhyme (the first and third lines do not rhyme). As for syllable count, the first and third line maintain eight syllables while the second and last line maintain six syllables - the meter for eight syllable lines is: da DUM da da da DUM da da while the meter for six syllable lines is: da DUM da da da DUM - on some stanzas the meter is a bit messy, but mostly it's good.
