A lone, intelligent and gifted woman with a great knowledge that others believe to be sorcery.

Making amulets and preparing poultices, studying the power of herbs, stones and consulting the stars, Marika has to find a way to survive alone in a world that sees her as a threat and where women are viewed as no more than animals.

The glint of light in a child's eyes, the murder of the father of a family and the arrival of an Inquisitor to the village destroys the delicate balance that Marika holds with the villagers. All the envy and rancour which has festered for years ripens to produce the most bitter fruit, hatred.
