Postcards to me

Slow and travel are two words that don’t seem to belong together. But slow travel is a philosophy, an attitude. It’s the kind of travel where you stay in one place for a while to know it rather than the touch and go style of travel where you say you’ve been everywhere but leave your heart nowhere. Postcards to me is a collection of essays and stories about my travel abroad and at home, which embody the nature of slow travel. Travel doesn’t get slower than taking public transportation across the Los Angeles area to reach a French bakery. Or moving from east to west across the United States to study the genetics of brain tumor development. Or living abroad for seven years in a country you never even wanted to visit. Sometimes you discover it’s that 15-minute conversation with a stranger in a flower shop café in a foreign city that becomes one of your most transformative travel experiences.
