Lyla Woods always thought she knew how her life was going to turn out. But when her thirty-year marriage suddenly comes to an end, she finds herself starting over on her grandmother's struggling farm outside the small town of Applewood. 

Just for a few weeks, she tells herself. Just long enough to get her bearings and help her grandmother out.

The only problem is her Grandma Rue. Ninety-one, sharp as a tack, and in no way interested in Lyla's help, thank you very much. Never mind the aging barn, the struggling pumpkin patch, or the bills that keep piling up.

But as Lyla throws herself into saving the farm with homemade pumpkin butter and a farmers market booth, something unexpected happens. Applewood starts to feel like home. Old friends become an important part of her life, the farm begins to show signs of hope, and Garth becomes harder and harder to keep at arm's length.

When she came to Applewood she never expected to find a reason to stay. Or a reason to trust a man again.
