Put the Probe Here is a quick, easy to read and digestible handbook for someone starting for their first echo rotation. While most echocardiography textbooks are daunting and assume the reader knows something about how echocardiography works, this book makes no assumptions. It will show you where to place the probe, how to position the image, where to measure, what to measure, and when to measure it. It also provides something no other textbook will, a step by step guide for each of the 50 clips in a standard transthoracic echo complete with many colour and labeled photos side by side with real echo clips so that you'll know what you're looking it. Finally, it will give you a quick primer on how to assess EF, grade valve severity, and give you the cliff notes version of more complex topics like diastolic dysfunction and PISA. It won't be the last echo book you ever read, especially if you want to do this for a living, but it should definitely be the first.
