"The sand was a whirlwind of dust and dollar bills. Gray clouds shifted and blotted out the sun. A storm was coming." -SAGE c.2016
RAMSEY
Milo was dead before we knew about the job. Scott killed him. After that, he lied about Billy and Milo stealing a priceless painting. Sage wanted to recoup the loss. Billy was her brother. I only came for her. The job was ten banks in ten weeks. Scott said the order didn't matter. We figured out why. Mitch was maimed after bank eight. He was lucky to have left with his life. Mitch was Scott's to deal with. Maybe he took care of him. Maybe he didn't.
We can't ask Scott anything. Sage saw to that. She killed Scott right before federal agents gunned her down. Billy made it over the ridge. My girl bled out in the desert sand. I tried to get to her with duct tape wrapped and packed around the bullet wounds in my back. We were too late. I didn't want to leave Sage. Adam had to pull me away. He was the best damn driver I had ever worked with. Even he couldn't make it there in time.
My heart tore and bled.
We linked up with Brian and Salina. She couldn't stop crying, and I couldn't stop drinking. The whiskey bottle was snatched. That didn't damn matter. Nothing did. I was hurting. I needed Sage.
What I wouldn't give to take one last ride with my girl.
I asked Adam to find out where Sage was. He should bribe the medical examiner if she was at the local morgue. If there was a problem, he could do whatever it took. If the FBI had her body, we needed a location. I wanted their travel route. I had plans to take her in transit. I promised Sage I would take her home. I wasn't going back to New Orleans without her.
