All the ingredients for the quintessential guilty pleasure: one part culinary delight, with a dash of romance and a pinch of suspense—mixed up into a deliciously sexy novel.
Sassy restaurateur Jade has mastered her share of recipes except for one: she can’t figure out the secret ingredient when it comes to love. Struggling to come to terms with being dumped by Bryce after four years, she surprises herself by agreeing to a date with Cain a mere three weeks after the painful breakup. But right as she moves on, Bryce decides that he wants her back. Jade can only hope that his obsessive pursuit of reconciliation doesn’t ruin her own pursuit of happiness.
Jade loves her new relationship with Cain, but her friends aren’t always supportive, and she resorts to lies and deception. But just as she settles into her new romance, her lies come back to haunt her. Can she face the error of her ways before it’s too late to salvage what matters to her most?
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Ray's debut contemporary is a sexy kitchen romance with realistically complicated relationships and bonus recipes. Jade is a strong-minded and successful restaurateur and chef, but her personal life is in disarray. After four toxic years, she finally kicks out her boyfriend, Bryce, and sets out looking for someone who will treat her with respect. A date with Cain, a rival restaurant owner, sizzles, but life is far from smooth: Jade's best friend faces a crisis after cheating on her boyfriend; Jade's restaurant partner is Bryce's twin sister; and Bryce is turning stalkerish. Ray's introspective characters ("I grew so used to heartache that I was constantly waiting for the next problem to surface") have rich and complex bonds with friends and family, and the ever-present thread of unfaithfulness is authentically sad. The slangy urban narrative style serves the story well, diminished only by choppy, expository writing.
