Sacred Architecture is a study of Ancient Greek architecture through the symbolic relationship between the chthonic and the celestial. Based on the long-term research of Greek architect George Baltoyannis, the book approaches ancient sacred space not simply as a historical or archaeological subject, but as a system of meaning expressed through geometry, form, orientation, myth, and construction. The work examines how architectural space may reflect deeper religious and cosmological structures, connecting temples, sanctuaries, axes, burial systems, and ritual landscapes with the wider symbolic world of antiquity. Through this perspective, architecture is understood as a bridge between the visible and the invisible: earth and sky, death and rebirth, matter and idea. Originally published in Greek as Ιερή Αρχιτεκτονική: Χθόνια και Ουράνια, this English edition, prepared and designed by Angelo Baltoyannis, presents the research of George Baltoyannis to a wider audience, offering an original theoretical reading of Ancient Greek sacred architecture and its enduring relationship with myth, belief, and spatial order.
