Centuries of fighting prejudice and intolerance have come down to this–proving to the universe that metahumans have earned a place in human society. It's the final battle, the ultimate goal, the judgment which determines if Liam and his kind will gain freedom or remain enslaved forever. They were created as the next evolution of humankind. From the moment he was initialized, Liam has wanted one thing above all else. He wants to be treated as an individual, a person, and not as a mindless drone, subservient to human masters. As a respected member of the Eltanin crew, he's enjoyed a privileged existence, having found friends, a purpose, and even love among the nebulae of the Delta Octant. He's demonstrated his loyalty and value, and believes he deserves the same protection as his human peers. The reality of metahuman existence on Earth, however, is a stark reminder of the progress which still needs to be made. On Earth, Liam is a number, a machine, property which can be assigned and repossessed against his will. Change is long overdue.
 

Ethan's finally found stability in his life. His mental health has improved, he has a fulfilling role on base, and he's happy with Liam at his side. He would consider himself satisfied, except his heart still yearns for the things he's been reaching for since childhood. A fairytale wedding to celebrate with his loved ones. Children to raise and nurture. Endless blissful moments with his husband. Without Liam's citizenship, those dreams are still too far out of reach. But Ethan's been a fighter all his life. Not even death has managed to kill his spirit. And for Liam, he'll battle to the ends of the universe to get what they want. Their future is worth fighting for. He won't let anything get in their way.
 

Braced against the tide of opposition, Liam and Ethan are determined to convince the doubters to change their minds. They need to bring their best arguments to the existential debate. Because if they fail, it's not just their happy ending on the line. If they fail, the fate of the entire metahuman race is in jeopardy. And that's a sentence they can't wait another lifetime to overturn.
