When members of the Merry Knitters, a Smithwell knitting group, receive mysterious Secret Santa ornaments and threatening notes, a friend enlists Kate to uncover the culprit. But events take a dangerous turn when one of the knitters is murdered.

As the first anniversary of her husband's death approaches, Kate must juggle her dread of the Christmas season with her search for the killer. Meanwhile, Minette the fairy opens up to Kate and unexpectedly reveals more of her past—and tantalizing but cryptic clues as to why she left her forest home.
