About the Author

Lawrence Barnholth was a legendary weightlifting coach and founder of the American College of Modern Weightlifting. He with the aid of his brothers, Lewis and Claude, revolutionized the sport of weightlifting by demonstrating through their pupils that the squat style when properly performed was superior to the split style in both the snatch and clean and jerk. He produced National, World and Olympic Champions and record holders on both these lifts.

Dr. Peter T George, Lawrence Barnholth’s star pupil, at the time of his retirement from competitive weightlifting had accumulated more Olympic and world championship gold and silver medals than any other athlete in the history of the sport. He was a member of the International Weightlifting Federation medical committee and was selected as a coach of the 1980 USA Olympic team, which boycotted the Moscow Games. He is the only American weightlifter included in the “History’s Greatest Olympians” trading card series.

Dr. George, a Columbia University-trained orthodontist, list of interests and achievements range well beyond dentistry. He invented and reported in the New England Journal of Medicine the first intraoral device to prevent severe obstructive sleep apnea and common household snoring. His patented inventions to treat medical and dental disorders are extensively used worldwide. He served as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Hawaii, School of Medicine, and has lectured internationally. His findings and commentaries on various topics have been published in leading national and international medical and dental journals.

Dr. George is proud of his sons, Barton and Tryan, and happily lives with his wife, Lazarina in Honolulu.
